Welcome to Miss VanDuinen's classroom webpage at Houghton Lake High School in Houghton Lake, Michigan. This year I will be teaching US History and Economics to students in grades 9 and 10. The 2016-2017 school year will be my 16th year teaching, all of which have been with Houghton Lake Community Schools. I am also proud to say I am a graduate of Houghton Lake High School. Go Bobcats! I have a BA in education from Saginaw Valley State University and an MPA in administration from Central Michigan University. Aside from my classroom teaching responsibilities, I am also the State and Federal Programs Director for the district. In this roll I work with Michigan Department of Education to secure funding for struggling student programs K-12, such as, summer school and after school tutoring. I find this work as rewarding as teaching in my own classroom. Outside of school I enjoy working out, running, gardening, boating, snowshoeing, and enjoying beautiful Northern Michigan.
